Assignment 8A

For my opportunity that I have selected, I have chosen the problem of people feeling hungover the day after they drink alcoholic beverages. The day after people drink, they experience multiple different symptoms such as queasiness, headaches, and collectively these symptoms are what makes up a hangover. This results from the toxins that are in alcohol and the fact that drinking alcohol dehydrates you. I see this as an opportunity because sometimes people would like to drink some nights, but don’t want to feel bad the next morning or maybe they need to be productive that next day, and it’s harder to be productive when you feel hungover. My solution to this problem would be some type of “hangover pack.” The pack would consist of some type of pill that you take before you start drinking that could react with the toxins in alcohol and counter it out, a hydrating drink, and an IV because that is the quickest way to hydrate. I would potentially include some type of food or food supplement because you aren’t supposed to drink on an empty stomach. My hangover pack would mostly be a preventative thing, as in you use it before you start drinking, besides the IV, which you would only use if you were still hungover the next day.

  1. Hello Graham,

As someone who drinks on occasion, I like this idea and I would see myself using it. I know there are some products out there like this now but I haven’t heard of them also using a food supplement. The only thing I would not use out of this would be the IV, however, that is just because I have a huge fear of needles. I also don’t know who I would trust enough to put a needle in my arm! Great post.

  2. Graham,

I enjoyed reading your post and hearing your idea. I like how you explained the reasoning behind hangovers then went on to propose your solution. Hangovers ruin my entire day so I think this is an awesome idea. Here in Gainesville, with greek life and just college kids in general- A product to diminish hangovers would do very well. With that being said, it's all about execution. I like the idea of including food, but I feel some people wouldn't like the thought of an IV, it may also be dangerous if you don't know how to give an IV

  3. Graham,
I agree that hangovers are not desirable after a night of drinking. While ideally a pill to counter the alcohol would be perfect, it is hard to go against putting alcohol in your body. Dehydration is inevitable when one drinks. I know of people who get IVs done the morning after or before drinking. However, they get them done at licensed places or by licensed people. I do not think that having an at home IV would be appealing because I am terrified of needles and would not trust myself nor my peers to give me one.

  4. Graham,
I commented on your last post thinking that your product was simply another hangover relief product that's on the market already. However, I really liked your idea of potentially making it into a food supplement pill that can not only prevent hangover, but other sicknesses caused by drinking at an empty stomach. Thus, I feel that it is a great opportunity once it passes regulation.
